Lights, Motors, Action!

Finally scrapping some photos from the Lights, Motors, Action! show at Disney's Hollywood Studios (MGM). I used SketchSavvy Sketch #108 HERE so check it out if you need to get some three photo pages done. It's a nice easy page and you get to use lots of papers. :) The papers are all My Mind's Eye and when I was taking photos of this page the page the exclamation point apparently moved and I didn't notice til I was uploading the photos so it looks a bit silly but you get the idea.

Mother of the Bride

I scrapped this beautiful photo of my sister and her mom using the New "Reflections" collection by Echo Park. At first glance you certainly wouldn't look at this collection and think weddings, but I have been using it for Angie's photos that were taken outdoors. The papers are beautiful and in such warm natural tones. They have chipboard pieces with words about home and family and the brads are even working out perfectly. I just added a doily and some crocheted flowers. Click HERE to see the full "Reflections" collection.

August Sketchy Thursday

Here is my sketch and layout for the Scraptastic Club Blog's Sketchy Thursday challenge. Since there is a week to complete the August challenges, hop over to the blog and give it a try, for a chance to win a $20 gift credit to spend in the Scraptastic Club Shop!

For my layout I have used the August Scraptastic Club "I found a Boy" kit, add on kit, and stamps. The stamps are super fun this month, check them out HERE. This is a photo of my son when he was a drum major in college and the colors of the uniforms and flags for this show were perfect for these papers. I stamped using orange pigment ink and splattered with a few colors of mists. I don't know if you do this, but for me it's the fastest way to spatter without having to do any clean up. I just unscrew the top of the mister bottle and since the tube that draws up the paint is drippy, I sort of fling it at my page and just put the bottle back together and I am done. Ok - I should say that I always use a sheet of poster board behind my layout so I don't splatter my whole desk, as that has also happened. :)

check in

This is for a challenge to use a disney photo that isn't a ride or attraction, use cameras or film on the layout, and try to use older photos. Well I certainly have a bunch of photos like that so I picked one that is special to me. Its one of the few photos of me and daddy. He hated to be in photos but my husband snapped this one when we were checking in to our resort and it was the first time we had stayed on property - also known as the end of staying off property. LOL! You can never go back. Its special because even though its a terrible photo, I can see how excited he was, so I love it. (* and yes...that is me and I am wearing the uber trendy winnie the pooh overalls! HA HA! but I guess I was stylin because the woman behind me is wearing the same sort of thing)

I used the Maggie Holmes collection from Crate paper and some of the die cuts too. I cut cameras from the paper because they are so darn cute. I cut a few stars from the background paper, put patterned paper behind, and then layered stars cut from vellum on top. I am on a bit of a vellum kick, and I think I am liking gold too, which is odd because I am more of a silver person myself.  I journaled in pencil. I really like doing that because I don't think the journaling should be in your face really. Its just for me, anyway.

MGM blue

Whether its MGM or Disney's Hollywood Studios to you, its got one big blue icon that doesn't match any of your papers in your stash. LOL! I mean maybe in the past 5 years you will have gotten 2 pieces of royal blue. Its a challenging color, but I found a bit of it in the Maggie Holmes collection by Crate paper, then I added some papers from a couple of other Crate collections because this background that looks like a frame of film is perfect for MGM.  This page is for a challenge involving difficult or old photos and for me, this one was very difficult, but I think I like the page now.

Another challenge with this photo is my son's polo. It's not actually this neon color but when I had the photo printed it went a bit neon. I chose a paper in a similiar tone to just tie it in a bit so that his shirt wasn't the only thing in the photo that you see. I cut the movie camera from cardstock and punched a mickey shape to layer over the camera and then embellished with a bit of glimmer - sequins and glitter alphas.

tough guys and their poodles

yeah its hard to look tough walking a poodle but it helps when your friend next door has one too. :) A little flash back to an old photo I had been wanting to scrap. I used the "I found a Boy" August kit and Add on Kit from Scraptastic Club kits.  Lots of fun bold colors this month and of course I love those little MME enamel dots. A sunshine just forced it's way onto my layout. If you do an outdoor photo and you have this nice dotty yellow, you just have to.

confession time... see those two white graph paper print banner bits? yep, they were a last minute addition to cover up some really bad journaling! LOL! I used an orange marker and it looked neon compared to the rest of the page - seriously gross. I just had to do something. At first I thought these bits looked dumb, but I am good with it now, so there we are. Mess up - cover up

Dapper Dans Quartet

I really love listening to the Dapper Dans on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, but most especially when it gets dark and the lights come on and you are waiting for the SpectroMagic parade. There were a couple of challenges about street performers and using old photos so I combined the two and used an old not so great photo from 02 for this page.

I combined the old and new products with Echo Parks Hello Summer from a year ago and their A Perfect Summer from this year. The colors were perfect for my photo. I always seem to like to add a doily when I am doing photos from Main Street too, for some reason they remind me of that era.

got alphas?

Want a fun way to use up all those alphas you have been collecting? Check out my blog post today at Scraptastic Club kits Blog HERE for all the details.  My kit this month is the "I Found a Boy" kit and Add on and there are three awesome alphas in the kit. I did this page using a couple of out take photos of my husband and son at Easter. I also added a couple of the stamps from the "IFound a Boy" stamp set and I made a pocket for some hidden journaling.

this spot

So there was a challenge about doing a disney layout about sounds that you hear only in the parks. You know like when you have heard the chorus of It's a small world for the 120th time in that ride through, the howling dog at the Haunted Mansion, or the seagulls saying "mine, mine, mine" outside The Seas with Nemo. If you have been to the parks more than once, then those sounds were probably very clear in your head just now. I love those memories and for my page I decided to pull out an old photo from the first time I took my guys to Epcot and its that moment when you first walk thru the gates and you hear that loop of music that is only at Epcot under Spaceship Earth! I love that music and the way it has that sort of echo...or maybe cave like sound as you get under there. Ok maybe its just me but I love Epcot and Spaceship Earth so its one of my fave sounds. I love it as much as walking under the arch and onto Main Street USA and hearing those tunes.

I used papers from the Stationary Noted collection by Teresa Collins. I have to say that I would LOVE more collections to make real blues that don't have green hues. I have all the turquoise and aqua I need for awhile. I love this blue. I added some older Making Memories chipboard alpha stickers, an exclusive vellum die cut and flair from one of my Scraptastic Club kits, and some sequins. Oddly enough I thought gold rather than silver and I like the way it looks.

Scraptastic Club's 3rd Anniversary Crop and Layout

Come join us this weekend at Scraptastic for a chance to win a prize.  The challenges are in the forum and I just completed my first layout! So hurry up and join me!

I used the August "Found a Boy" kit and Add on Kit. I have added a piece of vellum and some sequins because the challenge that I was playing along with was about confetti/sequins. Ok so I was going to do a very scattered confetti look, as that was the goal, but it got all organized and straight so I may have to try again. LOL! But this is a great kit with perfect blues and greens and the cool glittery thickers went perfectly with my white sequins.
