Scraptastic August Sketchy Thursday

I hope you are ready to play along with a Sketchy Thursday challenge from Scraptastic Blog. This sketch turned out to be alot of fun and I used the August This Life Noted kit so most of the pieces are the cards from the kit that I cut, punched, or layered. I also used the cool Brush Script Stamp Set.

Visit the Scraptastic Club Blog HERE to see pages from some of the other Design Team members because they are amazing!

I added a little bit of chevron washi from my stash and a patterned paper for the background. The stars are from one of the past kits.

For my title I stamped the Brush Script stamp letters close together and used a black tinsel embossing powder on vellum and then cut it out and mounted with adhesive foam tape.

Cat treats

This is my example for Sketch #129 at Sketch Savvy. Noel is a super picky eater but she does love cat treats. She isn't really allowed to have them very often now since she has renal failure, but I found these photos and had to scrap them. We have always brought her back these cat treats when we have gone to Disney parks and then of course we rationed them so they would last longer and when they were gone, I put other small treats in the can. I have no idea why she goes so crazy for those things, but you do NOT want to put your hand near those treats if you want to keep it. :)

I used an older BasicGrey collection "Max and Whiskers". Its ideal for pet pages and most especially for Noel's coloring. LOVE the kitty sticker and I had to make her some mouse ears. I sponged white paint over a stencil that had the same sort of pattern as the papers. I added a star punched from cork paper by DCWV and also some leftover corrugated flags (DCWV Corrugate Stack) from my last layout.

Specialty papers from DCWV

This page is my example for Sketch #128 at Sketch Savvy.  I wanted to show you how I used mostly older DCWV papers from the Safari Chic stack with a couple of prints from other older stacks, and updated them with some of the new specialty papers from DCWV.

I used the awesome gold chevron vellum from the Foiled Vellum Stack for one of the layers under the photo and then also for a strip along the lower edge. It adds a nice touch of gold to my safari-ish page. The coral banner and strip along the lower edge are from the Corrugate stack and those corrugated papers are just the best for adding a bit of texture and depth without bulk. Plus they are easily cut, stitched thru, and can be punched with most punches.

I got the design for the animal border from the signage at Animal Kingdom.

Here is a look at the stacks. There are actually a couple of different color combos of the corrugate stack. There are also patterned cork and burlap stacks, handmade paper, canvas ... lots of options for that extra pop on your next layout.

New DCWV Melon Twist Stack

Today I want to share some really awesome new goodies from DCWV. First I have to start by saying that my photos are just terrible today with the direct sunlight. I could not get the gold to photograph properly unless I tilted it just right.

I used a bunch of New goodies from DCWV, starting with New Melon Twist Stack of patterned papers, some are embossed with shimmery light glitter gloss and some have texture embossed designs that are really nice but I didn't really get that part to show since my layers are hidden.

I also used three of my very favorite new 6x6" DCWV stacks of specialty paper. The gold dot vellum is from the Foiled Vellum Stack - my fave stack ever! Then I hope you can see the woodgrain embossed texture of the white piece from the White Embossed Stack.
And lastly I used the new Printed Burlap Stack. I really like the tiny white dots. If you look at the strip below I used some scissors to cut fringe, but not the fringe scissors I have seen around. I found a inexpensive pair of Herb Scissors by Ball - you know, like the canning people (found at walmart for $8!) and it cuts fantastic, even thru burlap!
Oh and this super cute doily stamp is from one of the past Scraptastic Club and I heat embossed on vellum like I always do.

And here are the scissors and the blade guard that comes with them

Adventure Awaits

This is a page that I have wanted to scrap for a long time but just didn't want to mess it up. Do you do that with special photos? The photo is just a fun photo from Disney World but after our trip, our son went into the Marines and while deployed, I sent him some photos. His buddies took this photo and put it over the door. I had him do the journaling for a tag that pulls out from behind the photo with the hidden mickey.

I used papers from My Minds Eye and the burlap and printed corrugated paper from DCWV. I used the wording from the Adventureland dedication by Walt at disneyland.

This Life Noted - *August Scraptastic Club

At Scraptastic the "This Life Noted" kits each month are designed to work with pocket page layouts mostly. Here is the August This Life Noted kit. I know that some of you guys don't scrap using the pocket pages and some of you are doing a little bit of the pocket pages while also doing traditional layouts or cards. I mostly scrap 12x12 traditional layouts and a card or two here and there. When I looked at the kits this month, I really liked the This Life Noted kit and wanted to give it a go because all of the elements looked so fun. So I am going to share a few of my creations today as an example of another way to use these kits.
For my first layout I started with cardstock from my stash for the background and worked with a block design to feature my photo. I felt like the Pleasure Pier photo needed some banners. I punched some tiny banner shapes from a couple of the cards in the kit so that they would coordinate nicely.

I also used the wonderful Brush Script stamp set to create part of my title. I stamped the letters touching, and heat embossed on vellum, then cut out my title and mounted it using foam tape for dimension.

For the background dots I used a DCWV stencil and gesso.

This paperclip is a wood veneer element but I really wanted it to be lime green so I used lime green embossing power to cover the surface and it turned out really well.

For my next layout I began with cardstock from my stash for the background and also for a circle die cut design. I cut or punched the cards to suit my page design. even the banners in the upper left are cards. The green strip is two pieces cut from one card. I love the cards as they are sometimes, but they work great in pieces so next time you get cards think of how they can be altered for your creations. I added a little bit of twine and paint from my stash as well. Also the cute little arrow and star stamps are from the August This Life Noted Stamp Set and the August Celebration Stamp Set.

And finally I wanted to share a birthday card that I made using this kit because it was alot of fun. I loved the calendar card so I cut out the calendar and circled the birthdate. I stamped the Happy Birthday from the August Celebration Stamp Set onto one of the cards and heat embossed with yellow embossing powder.
And a close up just because its cute
